Battleground Earth For The Eco Showdown

In a pairing of two unlikely musicians, the new Discovery Channel Show, "Battleground Earth," has created a rock vs rap "green" showdown between Tommy Lee and Ludacris. Just when you think you have seen everything reality television has to offer, Discovery Networks' eco-centric Planet Green comes out with a competition that entails two music stars criss-crossing the country while performing various challenges designed to highlight green issues. The show ends in the culmination of the two artists arriving in Los Angeles to co-headline a concert at the Greek Theater with proceeds benefiting Griffith Park, which was devastated in the wildfires.

While the road tripping, party hardy living of bus touring musicians would usually not be considered a "green lifestyle," Discovery Channel has hit upon the strength of star power to raise awareness of environmental issues. Since people put credence in trend setting "stars" and what they say, all the better to capitalize on that and show them as positive, responsible role models for a good cause.

Discovery's Planet Green is the only-24-hour eco-lifestyle television network and will feature a diverse group of celebrities and personalities that hope to motivate and raise awareness about the future of our planet. Sounds good to me...it's just too bad it has taken this long.
