The Saw Doctors have been a touring band for 20 years, and to celebrate, they are kicking off a US Summer Tour from August 7-24, 2008. Then they return to the UK for a busy schedule November 28 through December 20, 2008.
This County Galway band is often compared with American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen due to their frequent descriptions of local atmosphere, haunts, characters, and their tendency to sing about ordinary people's lives in economically difficult times.
Film maker Steve Lock is making a documentary on The Saw Doctors while the band plays in the states. The film documentary, which will include footage from several of the US concerts, will air on Irish television at Christmas. Shamtown Records is scheduled to release a DVD and Live CD from the American tour in November.
The Saw Docs received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 Meteor Irish Music Awards. Coming from a die hard U2 and The Corrs fan, The Saw Docs have staying power. They have a rabid international fan base; be sure to check them out.
Until next time...
